Bec Briar
The Woven Briar
I am a shepherd, spinner and weaver living on the land on the edge of Exmoor.
My flock is the HoneyWoods Flock, and I keep Shetlands, Icelandics and rare breed Portlands for their stunning fleeces. We blade shear our sheep to get the very best out of the fleeces as well as for the wellbeing of our flock.
Using my home grown fleeces and those from local small flocks, harvesting plants from my fields, local hedgerows and the moors, I hand spin and weave pieces that showcase the natural colours and textures of the landscape.
My work explores how we can reconnect with the land we inhabit and live more sustainable lives, creating community and resilience, living within the resources around us with minimal impact. There is a quiet magic in the process of taking natural raw materials, hand shearing, hand washing, spinning and weaving the wool into beautiful one of a kind pieces, creating 100% natural, biodegradable, sustainable pieces in tune with the seasons.
I offer top-quality blade-shorn fleeces from the HoneyWoods Flock and nearby smallholdings, rare breed and hand spun yarns, spinning kits, plant dyes and inks, workshops and tuition, as well as my hand-woven blankets and scarves.
